- Every day about 4000 people would come to the site but less than 60 people would sign up as members.
- A lot of people found forums to be too confusing to use.
Analysis
- Demographic analysis of the participants was not easy owing to the anonymous nature of forums, but suggested that:
- * The forums were being used regularly only by technology-oriented people, which is a small minority given the composition of their community.
- * The forums had no immediate connection with the people coming to the site.
Based on the above analysis of the problems faced, we came up with the idea of "Ask us a free question". A form was created (debt-settlement page shown below):

The key points to note here are:
- We embed a picture of one of their moderators to develop a human connection.
- We keep the process of asking a question as simple as possible.
Outcome
